Since its launch in October 2020, Change the Race Ratio has been campaigning for change, starting by setting targets for businesses to set and publish clear targets for greater racial and ethnic diversity at board and senior leadership levels.
As a signatory to the campaign, Reed Smith has committed to:
- Increase racial and ethnic diversity among the executive committee
- Increase racial and ethnic diversity among the senior management team
- Be transparent on targets and actions
- Create and maintain an inclusive culture in which talent from all diversities can thrive
Tamara Box, Reed Smith’s EME managing partner, said: “We’re delighted that this incredibly important campaign now has 100 signatories and hope that the support keeps growing.
“Reed Smith is hugely committed to attracting, retaining, and developing talent from all ethnic backgrounds and so we are delighted to continue our support of Change the Race Ratio.”
Testament to the firm’s commitment to improving racial and ethnic diversity in the workplace, Reed Smith announced in May last year that it had launched a mentoring programme for its UK associates and business services staff from multicultural and ethnic minority backgrounds. The initiative is just one element of the firm’s global Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP) which was set up in 2020 to create specific benchmarks for hiring, retaining and promoting Black lawyers and for advancing pro bono initiatives impacting the Black community – all designed to deconstruct barriers to equity in the legal industry and in our communities.
