Reed Smith's Areta Kupchyk will be speaking at this year's BIO Annual Convention at 2p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 regarding "Turning Naturally Occurring Products into Approved Pharmaceuticals."

BIO is widely known for the BIO International Convention, a four-day annual biotechnology showcase that draws about 20,000 attendees. This year's convention takes place in Boston from May 6 through 9.  The convention serves to educate the public and policymakers about biotechnology, while fostering partnering meetings and other business development activities that keep the industry growing.

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), founded in 1993, is a nonprofit association that represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, state and international affiliates, and related organizations. BIO members develop and market revolutionary products in health, food and agriculture, and industrial and environmental biotechnology. Most of our member firms are small, capital-intensive companies whose ideas are still in research and development.

BIO’s mission centers on advocacy to strengthen biotechnology innovation and progress. It seeks supportive biotechnology policies at all levels—local, state, federal, and international. BIO’s advocacy covers regulatory and reimbursement policy, intellectual property laws, research grant policies, agricultural regulations, energy policy, and other biotechnology-related issues.
