(New York, NY, May 21, 2002) The New York City office of global top 50 law firm Reed Smith LLP continues to expand.
Patent attorney William H. Dippert, formerly of Cowan Liebowitz & Latman’s New York office, and financial services and transaction attorney David M. Grimes, formerly of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae’s New York office, have been tapped as the firm’s newest Manhattan-based partners.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Bill and David to Reed Smith,” said Gregory B. Jordan, firmwide managing partner of Reed Smith. “We anticipate they will further strengthen our ability to service the New York business and litigation needs of Reed Smith's clients from around the world, as well as make major contributions as we expand our international capabilities.”
Dippert is an experienced patent attorney with an extensive background in patent prosecution, licensing, litigation and due diligence for IPOs and transactional matters. He specializes in serving companies in the medical device, pharmaceutical, polymer and electronic fields.
“I look forward to the opportunity to expand my practice at Reed Smith,” said Dippert, who holds a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, as well as a law degree from Marquette University. “I believe the platform available here will support my ability to realize the type of professional advancement that’s increasingly difficult to achieve in a boutique practice.”
Dippert has more than 25 years of patent experience in several areas. He has represented a number of medical device companies that were acquired by major medical companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, and Boston Scientific.
Grimes’ professional background is equally strong. He has in-depth experience representing financial institutions in commercial lending transactions and restructurings and corporations in mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, and general corporate transactions.
“I am excited about joining Reed Smith’s Business & Finance Department,” said Grimes, a graduate of the College of William and Mary, the London School of Economics and Emory University Law School. “I foresee opportunities here to expand my own practice and to enhance the ability of Reed Smith to develop and service clients in the transatlantic market.”
Fluent in French, Grimes was one of the principal attorneys representing the purchaser of one of France’s leading telecommunication corporations. He also represented one of the world’s largest smart card manufacturers in its acquisition of the U.S. smart card operations of one of its competitors. Grimes also regularly represents financial institutions in their U.S. and overseas lending transactions.
