November 25, 2003 marks the first anniversary of "call-in special registration," a component of the National Security Entry Exit System (NSEERS) that required certain non-immigrant aliens to register with the Immigration Service and maintain updated information with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (U.S. CIS, formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service, INS) while they remain in the U.S. As we take note of this anniversary, aliens present in the U.S. should make sure to familiarize themselves with the NSEERS program and determine whether its provisions apply to them or not.
