As part of Reed Smith’s appellate practice, Ted has briefed cases in several federal courts of appeal and state appellate courts in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Arizona, New Jersey, Texas, and Virginia. He has argued appeals at both the intermediate appellate and state supreme court levels, including the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, where his oral advocacy was commended. Clients and colleagues have entrusted Ted to handle high-stakes arguments on issues of substantial and widespread importance, including an en banc argument before the 17-judge Court of Appeals of Virginia after petitioning the full court to hear the case. Additionally, Ted has represented clients in the United States Supreme Court, including petitioning for certiorari and filing amicus briefs.
In addition to his appellate work, Ted supports trial teams with briefing complex legal issues in dispositive motions, post-trial briefing, and other matters. Substantively, his experience covers a variety of areas, including class actions, managed care and ERISA, the False Claims Act, governmental investigations, products liability, financial services, insurance recovery, intellectual property, data breach litigation, and general commercial litigation.
Ted also dedicates significant time to pro bono matters. He has handled immigration cases, veterans’ rights cases, death penalty litigation in habeas corpus proceedings, and secured precedent-setting victories for the essential constitutional rights of those incarcerated.
Ted graduated first in his class from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and earned his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, in finance from the University of Pittsburgh. He serves as the editor for the Third Circuit Bar Association’s newsletter, On Appeal, and volunteers on multiple charitable boards that fund youth programs and scholarships. The Pittsburgh Business Times selected Ted to be part of its 2024 Class of 30 Under 30 honorees.
