He represents corporate, municipal, and individual policyholders in numerous types of insurance coverage and bad faith disputesspanning multiple industries, including financial services, private equity, real estate, construction, hospitality and tourism, professional services, transportation, and cannabis, under all types of policies, including commercial general liability, commercial and residential property, directors and officers liability, professional liability, commercial and residential property, environmental liability, workers’ compensation liability, and commercial crime. This includes the representation of bankruptcy trustees, receivers, and other court-appointed fiduciaries in seeking to maximize insurance assets for the benefit of creditors. He also has an active practice prosecuting insurer bad faith cases on behalf of policyholders, including those seeking punitive damages for an insurer’s wrongful general business practices in both state and federal court.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Matt graduated from Baylor University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts, and received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 2007. While at Miami, he was an Associate Editor of the Inter-American Law Review and served on the Executive Board of the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board. He is the recipient of several awards for advocacy, including the Best Brief Award at the Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition, and was selected as a member of the Order of Barristers. Matt also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Shelby Highsmith in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Matt is a member of the ABA’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee as well as several other volunteer bar associations and is frequently quoted in the media on issues related to insurance and litigation.
