India Business Law Journal noted that the firm’s cross-practice India team, spread over London, the Middle East and Asia, “is a huge draw for clients”.

Gautam Bhattacharyya, a London-based international commercial arbitration and litigation partner, chairs Reed’s Smith’s India business team. India Business Law Journal highlighted the firm’s Arbitral Insights podcast, which features a number of Bhattacharyya’s interviews with prominent Indian arbitration experts and other eminent figures in the global arbitral community.

The article also praised the firm’s launch of a first-of-its-kind mobile app developed by partner Timothy Cooke to help users calculate the costs of arbitration around the world.

The article highlighted several significant matters in which the firm had acted, including advising GMR Infrastructure on a restructuring relating to its US$275 million foreign currency convertible bond programme; advising British Asian Trust on a series of structural amendments to the Quality Education India Development Impact Bond; and advising Tech Mahindra on its purchase of Activus Connect.

The article quotes Hywel Phillip, general counsel at AT Capital, who noted that: “Reed Smith has deep sector and regional knowledge… and very competitive fee arrangements”.

Alongside Bhattacharyya, Reed Smith partners Gerald Licnachan and Matthew Gorman are praised as “pragmatic, responsive and client-focused” lawyers who “take time to understand the commercial drivers behind a deal”.
