“I have worked with Reed Smith’s Managed Care Team for some time and always admired the depth of their experience in the field and the results they achieve for their clients using highly efficient means and a great value proposition,” said Williams. “I look forward to working with them as the firm continues to expand its presence in the Dallas market.”
Williams’s experience is in the areas of managed care, health insurance, ERISA, Medicare Advantage, RICO, False Claims Act, and liability insurance coverage disputes in state and federal courts. While at HCSC he also created the company’s Texas legal pro bono program, including organizing staffing for the Dallas Veterans’ Legal Clinic.
Prior to joining Health Care Service Corporation, Williams was a litigation partner in the Dallas Office of Akin Gump.
“We are delighted to add Scott to our team of more than 45 attorneys firmwide devoting their practice to the managed care industry,” said Kurt Peterson, Head of the Managed Care team. “His arrival is a natural progression of our growth strategy of recruiting top performers with diverse experience. Scott’s knowledge of how the health care industry works enhances our understanding of the issues that in-house counsel face daily. Scott has stood in their shoes and, with a keen awareness of the pressure points they are experiencing, he will be a valuable asset.”
Williams is a 1994 graduate of the University of Texas – Austin School of Law. He served as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Richard Schell in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in 1995 – 1996.
His recent community service work is extensive, including serving on Theatre Three, Inc.’s Board, including three years as Chair; the Business Council for the Arts, Leadership Arts Institute; Fannin Elementary School Reading Tutor; Plano ISD volunteer; youth athletic coach; and Indiana University Alumni Student Recruiter.
“Scott’s broad skill set in commercial disputes coupled with his recent, high-profile work in the managed healthcare sector makes him a great fit with our growth plans in the region,” said Brian Mitchell, co-Managing Partner of the firm’s Dallas office.
Reed Smith’s Dallas office opened in May 2019, with 16 lawyers – a number that has more than doubled in the 10 months since. Williams is the 33rd lawyer to come aboard, following closely on the heels of Nigel Stark who joined the Global Corporate Group in Dallas on February 20.
